Red delicious.
One of the best things about living in Our Modern Times in The Big City is year-round access to delicious seasonal fruits. I don’t know how they (the growers of fruit?) do it, but I’m sitting in Los Angeles on a cold rainy day, eating juicy strawberries. It’s like a love letter from summertime.
My high school biology teacher used to lecture my class about how strawberries today don’t taste the way they used to, back in The Good Old Days. (He was in his early 30s, max.) Today’s modern-science strawberries are huge, tasteless, Frankenstein strawberries! And that made me sad, because… I want to taste a real strawberry. I need to go on a field trip to The Countryside.
But the strawberries that I found in the work-kitchen for today’s snack were good. Maybe they came here in a time machine from The Good Old Days. I don’t know what. I don’t look a tasty strawberry in the mouth. (Which is… in my mouth.)
(I wish I could find a clip from last week’s “Modern Family,” where Cam & Mitchell talk about City Mouse/Country Mouse. Close, but no cigar.)
xoxo…
